At lunch, one appealing place to start at Il Mare is the A Lunch, which runs from antipasti to pasta, house-made focaccia and a drink. One diner’s meal included a small pumpkin soup, a vegetable salad and an assortment of antipasti, followed by spaghetti with baby scallops and assorted vegetables in tomato sauce. With scallops and vegetables at the centre of the plate, it made for a lunch rounded off with coffee.
Another lunch pairing, described by diners sharing a meal, brought together an antipasti platter, pasta with small prawns and broccoli, and a pizza topped with vegetables and mushrooms. The pasta stood out for its garlicky flavour and rich tomato sauce, while the pizza had a pronounced cheesy flavour. You can choose the pasta or risotto of the day from the lunch menu, or opt for a pair lunch that also includes pizza. The choice depends on what you feel like eating and whether you’re sharing.
For those who want to linger over the starters, there is also an Antipasto Course. The menu includes an assortment of antipasti, a carpaccio platter, or a choice of two antipasti. One diner who particularly enjoyed the seafood recommended the carpaccio; another described the fish in it as pleasantly firm and enjoyed the individual items on the assorted platter. It’s also possible to make the antipasti the focus of the meal before moving on to pasta or pizza.
